Open Space Day 2026
No fixed agenda. No keynote handed down from above. Just our people deciding what they wanted to learn, teach, and argue about… and then doing it.
That’s our second itenium Open Space Day, and it was a blast.
The format is the point. We open with a round of lightning talks, build the agenda live on the wall, and let the day roll into self-organized sessions on whatever sparks energy. The rule that makes it work is the Law of Two Feet: if you’re not learning or contributing, walk to a session where you are.
What we got into
After the lightning talks, the wall filled up fast. A sample of the sessions:
- Private cloud & homelabs: what we’re running at home, how and why.
- DDD & software craftsmanship: the through-line from our DDD Track.
- Code coverage & estimating: two perennial arguments, no winners declared.
- “Are we living in a simulation?”: the obligatory off-topic rabbit hole.
- A whole lot of AI: Playwright MCP, the code-review bottleneck, triple debt, and a spirited “where’s all the shovelware?” debate.
The best part? The day doesn’t just end
Open Space works because it seeds the next thing. Two concrete outcomes walked straight out of the room:
- Our book club’s next read is now The Alignment Problem.
- Three new AI sessions are being planned: agent cage match & model bake-off, RAG & embeddings, and text-to-SQL & semantic search. They land on the AI Track.
This is how we grow: together, on our own terms.
